Sister or He Buried the Body — in this piece, Trajal Harrell vogues Tatusumi Hijikata, Butoh’s mastermind, voguing his dead sister, who was the base of much Butoh mythology and Hijikata’s vocabulary, and on top of this trinity, poses the question “what if ‘the sister’ of Hijikata’s tale was in fact the African-American dancer-choreographer Katherine Dunham?” This gesture marks the ending of every instant is at once and will be performed in the empty space of Kunsthalle.
