Museum Night 2025

21 – 22 March 2025, 06–02 am

On the occasion of the Museum Night, our doors will not only be open to Basim Magdy’s exhibition, but also to extraordinary experiences.
In Maya Minder’s fermentation workshops, slippery recipes are playfully spun into visions of the future as food stories. The workshop is part of a continuous installation that will be activated throughout the night to explore the art of fermentation and its cultural and technological dimensions.
At 7 and 8 p.m., visitors are invited behind the scenes, where the unknown can be discovered, and fermentation can also be explored spatially and intellectually in the building. The Kunsthalle Bern strives to become an institution that is not only accessible, but also makes room for collective and caring spaces in which new ideas can emerge. The theme accompanying the evening will be reflected in the performance Fermenting Kunsthalle Bar from 10 pm. There, visitors can express their wishes, needs and questions to the Kunsthalle Bern and sample fermented drinks.

Blindspot’s gastro-inclusion project offers fresh, organic and seasonal food on the forecourt. With their vintage food truck, they will treat Museum Night visitors to tasty street food. For drinks outside, the Kunsthalle Bar will also open its doors for the first time in the colder months – exclusively on Museum Night!

Furthermore…
Kunsthalle Bern will soon celebrate 110 years of groundbreaking exhibition making and for the first time since the opening of the house in 1918, our building is changing.
We have taken the opportunity to use this time, until June 2025 when a new fire exit door will be realised and a new chapter begins, to reflect on what Kunsthalle Bern was, is and what it could be in the future. We do so by fortifying our building safety regulations but by re-examining our program, our operations, their ethics, politics and their environmental footprint.
We have named this process Fermenting Kunsthalle. We are deeply immersed in it these last months: restructuring internally and externally, re-organising and re-thinking the Kunsthalle as a place that brings people together.
Further information on this transformation of the Kunsthalle Bern can be found on site at the Museum Night.
We look forward to your visit!
