7 p.m.: Discussion with Elena Agudio (Director Villa Romana) and Tuli Mekondjo (Artist)

Kunsthalle Bern is delighted to welcome the director of Villa Romana Florence, Elena Agudio and Villa Romana recent resident, artist Tuli Mekondjo. Their discussion pertains to the common forms of instituting built through collective interdisciplinary and intersectional thinking that Mekondjo,Agudio and Fokianaki share, while examining the practice and research of Tuli Mekondjo, who will be discussing her research and residency in Villa Romana, threads of which will be presented at Kunsthalle Bern in 2025.

The film screening program When Rain Clouds Gather discusses artistic imaginaries for possible futures, contemplating social and environmental justice. The series presents an overview of artistic practices that address the different imaginaries and responses that shape how we envision a climatic and more just future. Inspired by the homonymous novel of Bessie Head, the novel is a tale of hope amidst despair, inspiring us to think of possible futures with care and determination, against the damning reality of climate catastrophe.
