On the occasion of his exhibition at the Kunsthalle Bern, the Rex cinema is showing the documentary film Deep Horizon – George Steinmann sieht das Unsichtbare by Markus Baumann.

For five years Markus Baumann followed George Steinmann with his camera and got to know an artist who creates thousands of images, drawings and objects in his studio only to then exhibit empty spaces in the Kunsthalle Tallinn during six weeks. A philosopher who writes texts only to paint over them and present them up as monochrome pictures. An activist who says that art should have a voice, not just politics and business: in the climate debate, in digitalisation, in environmental issues. And a communicator who hides his messages behind layers upon layers of colour and material – or makes them disappear completely along with the material.
