A starts with a letter and B finishes the sentence, B hears one note and knows it’s A’s song. When talking to composer, writer and artist Bill Dietz on how he deals with materiality and sound art, this is what he described as “an undercommons of listening”, a pool of skills relating to listening and a whole sociology around it. There might be vocabularies missing, but the knowledge is there. In the sonic lecture he will be looking into these unarticulated talents and how to direct our attention towards them.
