How can the beauty of words be translated? How does sound migrate from one language to another? How can cultural connotations, how can the foreign and the ungrammatical be rendered, how can subtle linguistic nuances be transported? Which shores are left behind, and into which new territories are they transposed? The spoken poetry performance by Flurina Badel (poetry) and Manuel Mengis (trumpet) and the subsequent discussion between the author Flurina Badel and the translator Ruth Gantert will address these questions on the basis of the recently published German version of the poetry collection tinnitus tropic, the original Rhaeto-Romanic poems of which were awarded a Swiss literature prize in 2020.
