The Festival of Failure
by & with Jürg Halter

What did the Tages-Anzeiger once write? “Jürg Halter is a man for strange cults and the revaluation of everything.” This he would like to prove once again. “With probably my most radical artistic project to date,” he says.

What location is more appropriate for this than the Kunsthalle Bern? On three consecutive evenings, Halter will stand alone in a circle in the large room of the Kunsthalle and deliver a freestyle speech, without accompaniment, without a safety net; he will speak in tongues: 1 person, 1 microphone, 100% improvisation.

Anyone who has already seen Halter improvise will know how far he can go, for example, at the last Solothurner Literaturtage, where after a failed jump from the stage onto a table he had to be brought to the emergency room with a hole in his head. But isn’t improvisation the only form of contemporary art in the literal sense?

Will the exceptional artist Halter be able to freestyle out of nothing for 45 minutes without a pause, or will he fail? We shall see. “Falling apart in the making. Poetry in the making.” (Quote by Halter).

Presented by Atelier für Anfänge in collaboration with Kunsthalle Bern.
