No Way Out is a season of feature-length science fiction films made between the 1970s and today. Shifting the focus from science fiction’s relationship with fantasy, the season constructs a landscape that draws science fiction and reality closer together. Comprising many different science fiction genres, the programme mixes mainstream cinema, with arthouse and experimental film; paralleling social and political alternatives with future thinking scientific and technological trajectories (alongside pioneering cinematography and animation). The films present alternative realities and depictions of the near future that reflect on or current global social and political landscape.
