Matri-Archi(tecture) presents STOKVEL

Saturday, 5 April 2025, 10–06 pm

Matri-Archi(tecture) and Kunsthalle Bern are thrilled to extend a warm invitation to you to join our gathering Stokvel at Kunsthalle Bern.
Stokvel draws its name and inspiration from the South African Stokvel model describing an informal yet quintessential ‘savings pool’ in which funds are contributed in rotation, typically by Black women, allowing them lump sums for their needs. Members usually contribute a monthly sum and mark this moment with a monthly gathering, typically taking place in the home of one of the members. In this sense, the Stokvel not only provides (financial) stability for its members, but also provides a familiar social space where fellowship and commune are shared. Gathering is at the centre of the Stokvel.
Departing from this spirit of fellowship, collective saving and support; Stokvel prompts a series of 4 in-person discussions between 15 artistic and architectural practitioners in Matri-Archi to transfer counsel in the form of the non-monetary currencies we hold valuable in our practices. The gathering offers to catalyse a collective re-imagination of the conditions under which we collaborate, using care as an ethic and point of departure.
We would be delighted to have you join this gathering of voices, to learn about other possible forms of collaboration, nurturing practices and to simply enjoy the conviviality of knowledge call upon through assembling.

RSVP: The event is free. Reservations for each session can be made via info_at_kunsthalle-bern.ch
